Our Action Plan Includes
- Develop and implement ongoing education and communication strategies such as the S.O.W. web site: www.saveourwaterfront.org.
- Sponsor community forums on issues of public access, water quality and balancing diverse uses of our water resources.
- Collaborate with the Town and other community organizations to update the Nantucket and Madaket Harbors Action Plan, dated June, 1993 and have it certified pursuant to Massachusetts law.
- Reconsider concept of establishing a Port Authority which would give our Town legal author over the development of Nantucket Harbor and the ability to provide for the public good.
- Monitor proposed waterfront-development projects and keep S.O.W. supporters, as well as the community-at-large, informed.
- Support Nantucket citizens and organizations through the permitting and appeal processes regarding the proposed MCD to construct a yacht club complex by providing financial, legal and advocacy resources necessary to ensure complete environmental-impact review of the project.
- Inventory existing public-access ways to Nantucket's harbors, including footpaths and boat ramps, as well as those historic public access sites that have been closed.
- Inventory current and expired Chapter 91 license (ensuring public access and water-dependent uses to assess status of compliance with public-access requirements.
